Key Club Pledge

Key Club Information for New Members
Welcome to Key Club! We are a service-oriented organization and the biggest club at St. Charles East.

We will be making spice bags for the DCM on Friday. Everyone is invited to stay and help!

Service Projects

Adopt-A-Family
We will be sponsoring one family this year and making food baskets for two others! Go to our sign up sheet, see what the families need, sign up to bring something, and drop it off in the Key Club Office by Friday, December 9th. Questions? Call Sarah at (630) 205-0019

Adopt-A-Family Pick Up
Next week, the families from Adopt-A-Family will be coming to pick up their gifts and food baskets. We need volunteers to help with this on December 12th or December 13th from 3:30 pm-5:00pm and 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. The address is 1120 Randall Court, Geneva. Questions? Call Sarah at (630) 205-0019.

Special Night for Special Kids
We need volunteers to help run fun games and activities at Davis Elementary School on December 8th from 5:00-7:00. Questions? Call Sarah at (630) 205-0019

New DCM
The next DCM will take place on December 9th from 6:00-8:00pm at Batavia High School. We will be packing dried soup mix for families. Questions? Call Morgan at (630) 440-2469





Salvation Army Bell Ringing
Volunteers are needed on December 19th at Blue Goose and on December 21st at the Wal-Mart in St. Charles from 10:00 am—6:00pm. You can sign up for a two hour shift with two people per shift. Questions? Call Kristin at (630) 346-7757

Fox Valley Troop Support
Volunteers are needed on December 10th from 10:00am-2:00pm to help assemble care packages for soldiers at the Batavia VFW at 645 S. River St, Batavia. You can also write a letter (no personal information, use STC as the return address, leave unsealed) and bring it to add to the care package! Questions? Call Kristin at (630) 346-7757

Northern Illinois Food Bank
Anyone who is interested in volunteering at the Northern Illinois Food Bank in February should sign up at today’s meeting. Specific dates will be announced later. Questions? Call Connor at (630) 485-8671

The Eliminate Project. Kiwanis wants to erase neo-natal tetanus from the earth by 2015. Look out for more information on what our Key Club is doing to help.

March of Dimes. The March of Dimes is a leader and pioneer in the fight to save babies. They are now working on ways to solve the problems of prematurity, low birth weight, and birth defects. Key Club is one of the many organizations that works to raise money for their research and support programs.

Turkey Drive
STCE is holding their annual turkey drive and donations are needed! Any of the following are appreciated (must be dropped off in the Student Activities office before November 17th)

-a 10 lb. turkey
-boxed stuffing
-canned gravy
-boxed potatoes
-canned cranberries or vegetables

Additionally, drivers are also needed on the 17th to transport the turkey dinners to Munhall and Anderson.

Snowflake Shuffle
The Snowflake Shuffle is a 5K walk/run that raises money and awareness for TriCity Family Services. The walk is on December 3rd, but you need to register by November 23rd! Go to http://www.tricityfamilyservices.org/2012_Snowflake_Shuffle.html to register. Questions? Call Sarah at (630) 205-0019

Little Angels Supply Drive
Little Angels is a home for severely disabled young adults who need 24/7 health care. They need certain supplies, and we can help by supplying them. During November 7th-11th, bring in the items assigned to your class! Boxes will be in the main commons.

Sophomore: glue
Juniors: post-its
Seniors: black sharpies

Divison 10 DCM

Tri-Cities CROP Walk
CROP supports local food pantries and supplies food to people in Africa. Help them in their fundraising efforts at the annual Tri-Cities CROP Walk on October 16th. Triple Threat Softball Tournament
Triple Threat is an organization that focuses on athletics, academics, and arts to help urban youth recognize their full potential. Volunteer to help out with their 5th grade softball tournament on Oct 15th . Help out with games and activities from 10:30 am-1:30 pm or work as a scorekeeper (experience required) from 8:30am-12:00pm/11:30 am-3:00pm. Are you creative? Dramatic? Love Halloween? Then sign up to create and execute your own scary scene at the Three Fires Council’s annual Haunted Hike. The hike is on a weekend in mid-late October, but start thinking of ideas now! This will require time commitments outside of club meetings, and we need as many people as possible! Questions? Kiwanis Peanut Days

Membership and Dues
Dues are $20 and due by the end of October. You need to pay dues every year in order to be a full member. You do not receive a new membership card each year. Your membership number remains the same. Only first-time members get a card.

Service Projects

Haunted Hike: Create Your Own Scene!
Are you creative? Dramatic? Love Halloween? Then sign up to create and execute your own scary scene at the Three Fires Council’s annual Haunted Hike. The hike is on a weekend in mid-late October, but start thinking of ideas now! This will require time commitments outside of club meetings, and we need as many people as possible! Questions? Fall Leadership Rally
Come meet other Key Clubs for a day of service and fun on October 2nd at Hinsdale Central High School! 6th annual Living Well Bridgewalk – A 5k walk around the Fox River to benefit cancer. The walk is on May 14th, at the Kane County Forest Preserve in Fabyan Park. Grab a packet, sign up, and collect at least $50 in donations! If you cannot attend, donations will still be accepted!

Kane County Child Advocacy Center
The Child Advocacy center is holding a walk to benefit child abuse in the Kane County area. The walk will be on May 21st, at 8:30 am, on the Kane County Forest Preserve Bike Trail in Geneva. Questions? Call Morgan @ (630) 440-2479

Memorial Day Parade
On May 30th, students are invited to participate in the Memorial Day Parade in downtown St. Charles with the Fox Valley Troop Support! Free T-shirts and service hours will be given to all participants. Meet at 6th and Main Street at 9 AM. An optional ceremony will be held afterwards at the Freedom Shrine by city hall. You must be at least 16 to donate blood, with parental permission unless 18 or older. Anyone interested in signing up must do it during a lunch hour or study hall. The drive will be from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

TCFS Adopt-a-Family
Stay after our meeting today to help us put together easter baskets. It will only take a few minutes!

Cards for Max
Another opportunity directly after our meeting. A 12 year old named Max has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. He has a wish to receive 1 million get well cards. I think each member should stay after and write at least one! It will only take a short while and it’s definitely for a good cause!

Scholarships
There is a $500 scholarship available to St. Charles East students from Kiwanis. See Mrs. Gilmore in guidance to receive and fill out an application.
There are many others available to individual key club members that deal with recognition for outstanding service.

Officers for Next Year
Congrats to Will, Kaitlin and Jeanine, who have been selected as officers for Key Club next year. Thanks to everyone else who applied, we wish we had positions available for you!

Blood Drive
Just a heads up, we’re planning on having our annual blood drive on May 26th. We’re still in the planning process but we’re definitely going to need volunteers to go around asking people to sign up and donate during all lunch hours.

Valentine’s Day Crush/Salvation Army
Key Club will sell mini cans of Crush Soda with a Valentine’s Day note to be delivered to the sweetheart(s) of your choice on Valentine’s Day. We need 1) volunteers to help sell the sodas/notes, 2) members to help purchase the cans/notes and to encourage friends to do the same, and 3) volunteers who have a study hall to help deliver to classrooms on 2/14! SALE DATES TBD (either during 2/9 late start morning or possibly during lunch hours). So many ways to show your Key Club love! Contact Sarah @ (630) 205-0019

Kiwanis Lunch

Salvation Army:
We decided we wanted to do a fundraiser for the Salvation Army. Our idea is during the week before Valentine’s Day we’ll sell candy grahams. But here’s the catch…they’re way cooler than that. We’re planning making them cans of Crush soda, which will be delivered to your crush along with a note or something on Valentine’s Day. We’re going to need volunteers to help sell these during all lunch hours, from February 7th to the 11th.

So we need a few pictures of our volunteers in action! Preferably before the 20th because we want to put the pictures on a board for Future Saints night. Anyone interested in doing it will get service hours! Questions? Call Colin @ 6305841617

Service Project Ideas, Managers:
Do you have an idea for a service project for our club? If you know of a service project idea through your participation with a church or youth group, another club or sport, the park district, or some other agency and would like to see if other Key Club members could help, then we want to know! You can earn service hours as a project manager and can help expand our club involvement in the community. Simply bring your ideas and a contact name and number to any officer to get your project started.
